Looking for a low protein dog food?
Animal behaviourists and dog trainers and more importantly dog owners see the problem repeatedly and the result - from hyperactive, uncontrollable dog to well behaved and easily trained dog just by changing to a chemical free, low protein dog food.
Another argument made by some of the dog food companies whose products are only sold through the vet profession is that low protein dog foods are necessary for dogs with kidney issues.
Comparison of protein in dog foods
Much is said about BARF, raw diets and dogs requiring high protein because they are related and descendants of the wolf. The only way to accurately measure the true level of protein in a dogs diet is to remove the water. Meat generally has around 80% water and therefore needs to be removed in order to accurately access the proper or true level of protein. Inclusion of 'Fresh' chicken or other proteins in dry dog food
When we examine exactly how protein in dog food needs to be calculated the ingredient list of dog foods and the analysis can be seen in a new light. Fresh chicken which includes water is added to a dog food, it immediately pushes that ingredient to the top of the ingredient list. What is ignored is that food is dried, the water is removed . I have seen this in organic foods, foods claiming to be holistic - in short it is deception to the dog owner. The ingredients list must be read in conjunction with the analysis.
